Discussing about registry management, for personal use you don’t need to spend any money to clean up your Windows registry. Regseeker by Hover Inc. is a free program that let you get rid of invalid entries, unused extensions, missing files, bad references, and other unwanted items from your registry.

Backup function is provided so the operation can be undone. Apart from that, you may also opt to wipe out junk stored in Windows application such as cached data in Internet Explorer consisting history of visited urls, etc.
To use this program, choose autoclean and it will get the job done. If you want to exclude specific entries, you can do so by adding them into the exclusions list.

I’m always a little worried about using free tools which have this level of access to my computer.
I mean really, why are these tools free, and why would I give them access to my registry?

I run “free registry fix” the paid version but to be honest I don’t really see what the benefits are. I understand that a clean registry might be a good thing but when I clean my computer I do not feel any difference in performance at all.

Seems like a good program , will give it a try, thanks.

People under-estimate the importance of keeping an optimized registry.
As programs are installed, uninstalled and general registry decay, this leads to performance issues that could be avoided on the PC.

I had a problem with my computer before and i called the costumer service and they let me typed in some words in the start up menu where the “run” is. I think this is the reason of these two dialog boxes that i keep seeing on my computer.

First of all, you need to identify what operating system you are using so someone has a reference point. Once you do that, someone will be able to point you to the spot in the registry that is trying to load your program.

Most registry repair programs available on the Internet are snake oil at best. I believe the best approach for you would be a complete format and re- installation of Windows.

There are actually quite a few. However, the best free program for this purpose that I’ve come across is called CCleaner. Here’s the link.

I’ve noticed little things and small errors popping up like invalid so and so. So, my question is, is there a good free program to clean out the Windows registry you guys can recommend for Windows XP SP2?

Uninstalling any program will remove registry entries to it, so it’s likely normal. But you might try getting a registry cleaner application if you feel paranoid.

I sometimes hear that particular sound from the hard disk similar to downloading data onto my computer, but I am not downloading anything, nor is there any internet connection open. So I guess my computer might be uploading data onto some servers without my knowledge.

Hello. Windows registry will not show any outbound or inbound connections. If you go to your COMMAND PROMPT, and type “netstat -a”, without the “”, it will show all incoming connections to your PC, and the port that its using. Then i would Google it and see what is running on each port.

Since Vista is a new OS, you shouldn’t have too many things in your registry to clean out. The slow down could be due to all the services that loaded with Vista, a slow video card and not enough memory to run Vista properly. Check your Vista Index score.

Maybe one of these days Microsoft will include such a tool in its OS. But that might just be wishful thinking on my part!
