These are some of the things you can do to save your iPod/iPhone if they got accidentally soaked in water. Like we all know, it’s unfortunate that Apple doesn’t cover damage due to water in their warranty.
So, these steps are worth to try before spending any money for a new ipod. Mine was a washing machine disaster, but I think any water-related accident may be applied here.
How to save iPhone/iPod that has submerged in water
- First, completely turn off your iPod or iPhone. This can be done by pressing the power button for a few seconds and slide according to the instruction on the screen.
- Remove any screen protector. Wipe the iPod/iPhone with dry cloth
- Put the device in a small container of uncooked rice and leave it to dry by the sunlight. The rice will absorb surrounding moistures. Silica gels can be used as an alternative if you don’t want the rice dust, but be sure to get them quickly. If the weather is not sunny at your place, or if it’s too hot, you can put the container inside your house.
- Your device should be dried within 1 or 2 days depending on the weather condition. Let it cool down if it feels hot.
- Connect the iPod/iPhone to your computer through the USB port leave it for a few minutes. It should work normally after that.
- If the device fails to charge or synchronize, reset it by pressing both power and home (round button at the bottom) at the same time for a few seconds.
- If the device fail to turn on, send it to any iPod/iPhone repair shop.
I hope this little effort will help you like how it prevented me from getting a new iPod.

To other readers who plan to buy an iPod/iPhone, it might be a right decision to buy warranty that has coverage for water damage alongside the gadget so you don’t have to worry about this type of accident.

My friend used the uncooked rice method with his Macbook Pro after getting water on it. Seemed to work OK… Have to make sure every single part is dry though. And also, always back up, no matter if laptop, or iPhone.
Thanks.

Very funny. The solution is, do not wash your phone!

Something similar happened to me about a year ago – fortunately not with an iPhone, but with a much cheaper one.
Here is my little story:
A year a go we bought a new apartment and I spent my weekends over there doing some work. In order to be reachable, I always had my mobile phone with me – in one of the pockets of my work clothes.
One saturday evening after some work, I took off my clothes to take a shower and left them in the bathroom. Now, I intended to use them again the following day, however my wife thought they needed to be washed… She didn’t check the pockets! She always tells me: “Check your pockets before putting your clothes to the washing…”
Well, the following when I was looking for my work trousers, I discovered what happened. And yes, of course the phone ws “dead” and I had to get a new one.

Does this actually work? I left my iPod Touch in my jeans which then went into the wash and looking for a way to fix it!

I can report that I doused my iPhone in the sink accidently and was able to save it immediately turning it off and leaving it in a bag of rice overnight.

This does work. I have had it happen to me. I actually had a whole beer spilled on my phone before and I did nothing but take the battery out for 2 days and it was fine, that was an LG phone though. I was shocked.

it just sits there and sulks. The usual pumping sound is nowhere to be heard, however, I can still drop the outlet hose to ground level and drain the machine that way.

I am curious how rice can pull water out of it? If it’s really possible than I i would be amazed.

When electronics get wet they can be saved if NOT powered on. You will need to pay to have the phone repaired, and it may not even be repairable.

This deal is a ripoff anyway. I live in CA and the tax I would have to pay on a MacBook pro at the Apple Store is usually the price of the iPod Touch. It’s cheaper to just buy it from a tax free place like macconnection and get the Touch later if I want it, which I don’t.
