computer tips and tutorials. The power on your side..

These are some of the things you can do to save your iPod/iPhone if they got accidentally soaked in water. Like we all know, it’s unfortunate that Apple doesn’t cover damage due to water in their warranty.

So, these steps are worth to try before spending any money for a new ipod. Mine was a washing machine disaster, but I think any water-related accident may be applied here.

How to save iPhone/iPod that has submerged in water

  1. First, completely turn off your iPod or iPhone. This can be done by pressing the power button for a few seconds and slide according to the instruction on the screen.
  2. Remove any screen protector. Wipe the iPod/iPhone with dry cloth
  3. Put the device in a small container of uncooked rice and leave it to dry by the sunlight. The rice will absorb surrounding moistures. Silica gels can be used as an alternative if you don’t want the rice dust, but be sure to get them quickly. If the weather is not sunny at your place, or if it’s too hot, you can put the container inside your house.
  4. Your device should be dried within 1 or 2 days depending on the weather condition. Let it cool down if it feels hot.
  5. Connect the iPod/iPhone to your computer through the USB port leave it for a few minutes. It should work normally after that.
  6. If the device fails to charge or synchronize, reset it by pressing both power and home (round button at the bottom) at the same time for a few seconds.
  7. If the device fail to turn on, send it to any iPod/iPhone repair shop.

I hope this little effort will help you like how it prevented me from getting a new iPod.

To other readers who plan to buy an iPod/iPhone, it might be a right decision to buy warranty that has coverage for water damage alongside the gadget so you don’t have to worry about this type of accident.
