Nintendo has announced the official price for their next-gen console Wii, and it will be less expensive than PS3. Nintendo Wii will be sold at $250, (RM 900) the highest cost that Nintendo has ever charged for a new console.
Let us compare it with Playstation 3. The low end PS3 will be $499, while the 60GB version will be $599. The release date of Wii will be on November 19th, two days after the November 17th PlayStation 3 launch. It appears that Nintendo is including Wii Sports in the $250 cost. A free gift isn’t it?
The Wii Sports is a compilation of tennis, baseball, golf and bowling, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Excite Truck, and the entire library of more than 530 Nintendo GameCube titles.
“Our goal is to bring gaming back to the masses,” Reggie Fils-Aime, president and chief operating officer of Nintendo of America, said in a telephone interview as repoted by NYT. “You see that in our pricing, you see that in the number of units we plan to make available this year and you see that in how we are positioning the Wii to appeal to every member of the household, including but not limited to the hard-core gamer.”
It seems like Nintendo has planned their marketing strategy very well this time. Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3 will fight with each other and let us see which one will grab the most attention from gamers for this year.
