Open source application is a software where its source-code is open and available for everybody to customize it in the way they like. Recently, open source development seems growing very fast. The first software that I think very interesting is The GIMP. The GIMP is an image manipulation program. An image maniuplation program is a software that let you edit or create your own graphics using the tools provided. The GIMP works just like Adobe Photoshop. Moreover, experts said that it has on par performance with Adobe Photoshop.
The interface is made up by severel smaller window (not like the usual main windows ound in Windows). Thanks to the highly active open source community, the interface is whole lot better and intuitive.

The advantage of vector graphics compare to pixel graphic is the quality of pictures are maintained even when nelarged. If you want to create vector graphic, Incape can be used to create things such as company logo. You can also use it to edit and enlarge exiting graphic.
You can save few bucks if you use Inkscape. This an aternative software which has capabilities similar to Illustrator, Freehand, CorelDraw, or Xara X.
