As you know,using a RSS feed reader is a new way to read the latest news online. Now, I will teach you how to get the latest updates from any blog or websites that you like. In this tutorial, I will focus on software and not online-based RSS reader. The software that we will use is Feedreader 3.05. The reason why I choose this software is it’s has easy user interface and lightweight. Thus, you could learn using RSS feeds faster.
The name RSS is an acronym for Real Simple Syndication. RSS/XML/Atom are different ways of allowing information from websites to be read by applications other than a web browser (or in case of Firefox and Opera a quicker way to read the news). What this basically does is feeds you the latest updates without having to open your browser and loading the whole content of the site.
Get the Feedreader 3.05.
The site that we will use as an example is this blog.
Since this blog use Feedburner service, you can find the RSS feed link from this button at the right sidebar of this blog.
In most cases, you will only need the link for the RSS Feed. So for this blog, http://feeds.feedburner.com/bloganything is be the RSS Feed link. In other website, you can find RSS Feeds link from these button. I recommend you to use the 2.0 version.
After you had downloaded the software, install it in any folder that you like. In the Welcome window, it will ask you to choose the feeds that you would like to import. Select none of them. Then, click Finish.
Go to file | Manage Feeds |
Enter the RSS feed link and fill the description (you don’t have to fill the username and password for this blog). See the screenshot below.
Click “More”, then “Update Feed”
