Forget about codec and play your movie straight off a bootable CD ![]()
Think about all video and audio codec that you remember (real media ,avi,WMA, VCD, DVD).What? You can’t remember them all? Well, same for me the none-geeky kinds. Everyday
we heard lots of new audio and video codec comes out with amazing features and so much better, but you need to install the codec. It would be worse if you had to install several softwares just to play them. Now, I will teach you on how to use GeeXbox, free open-source software that can boot right from a CD and play any media that is available out there. You don’t even need to use Windows. It can read video and audio files as long as it is on a CD or DVD media.
Sounds interesting? Let’s get started.
First visit http://www.geexbox.org/en/downloads.html and download a copy of the following.
1. GeeXbox 0.98.7 English edition for i386 (PC) from the GeeXbox ISO Section.
All you need to do is burn a copy of the /iso file using any standard CD Burning software like Nero.
This is how to burn a .iso file using Nero .
1. First, open the Nero Start Smart
2. Go to “Copy and Backup” section, click “Burn Image to Disc”
3. Select the .iso file that you have just downloaded just now
4. Select your destination drive (your CD-writer or DVD-writer)
5. Then, click next.
6. Insert a blank CDR, it will automatically burn the cd for you. Now it’s finish!
After you have burnt the ISO on a CD, pop the CD in your drive, set the first boot option to CD-ROM and reboot. GeexBox will boot off the CD and present you with the On-Screen Display (OSD) menu. At the same time, it will also eject your GeeXBoX boot CD, Now it’s the time to insert your movie CD and enjoy. The OSD menu can be navigated with a keyboard, joystick, or a supported remote control like the Ati Remote Wonder or Pinnacle PCTV remote. Once the CD has been inserted, use the right arrow button to go to a sub-menu and the left arrow to go back. the menu are items are pretty self-explanatory and lets you play around with various kinds of Media like VCD, DVD, audio CD , and singles file like DivX, WMA, MP3, or MPEG. It also gives you playback controls and allows you to change things like aspect ratio and subtitles.
