At 17-inches tall, Tuhumbelina is the world’s currently smallest pony. She was just 5 years old when she made into the Guinness Book Of Record, living in a farm with a couple who specialize in breeding miniature horses.

“When she was born, she was so small we thought she wasn’t going to make it,’ said Michael Goessling, whose parents Kay and Paul bred the miniature horses.
‘She weighed eight pounds when she came out and she looked very ill. We feared the worst.
‘Because her legs are proportionally smaller than her body and her head, she has to wear orthopaedic fittings to straighten them a lot of the time.
‘But we love her and wouldn’t want her any other way.’
Unlike the other horse who usually can live for about 35 years old, Thumbelina could only survives for 17 years due to her size . The owners have plenty of stories to be shared about her here.

1) Every creature is unique in their own ways as they are in their gene. We can’t expect everything to be the same in this world which bring me to the next point that
2) Thumbelina could be accepted and loved by by its own kin (its mother maybe) as we know mother’s love transcends everything. At least she’d know some ppl adore her too from the attention she received.
Try to look at the positive sides. I agree with you about the silly record in the Guinness Book though I was told that it’s merely stored for information purpose. I personally think the recording about such thing is unneeded.

I have 6 horses and I love all of them so much. I love them because they are HORSES. doing this to a horse is torture. Horses were bred to be BIG animals. Thumbalina is too small to feel like a horse. It is sad that you did this to her.

They didn’t do it to her! it just happened! Don’t be mean you jerks. They’re not breeding horses to be smaller and smaller. Dwarfs just happen. Oh, and whoever said, “She’s the ugliest dwarf in the world”? How would YOU know? And also someone said that,”I love my horses because they are HORSES”? So you’re saying that if you had a mini that gave birth to a dwarf, you wouldn’t love her, or take care of her? Well, that is mean, cruel, dumb, and a thousand other thing to vulgar to mention. I honestly do not understand why people keep saying all these harsh things about this pony. It’s not wrong, it’s not disgusting, it’s genes and other problems in pregnancy. Such happens with all birth defects and sicknesses. Dwarfism is not bad, it happens for a number of reasons. Retardation is not bad, it happens for a number of reasons also. My friend has CAH, and it’s caused when two parents have the same certian gene. Poor unlucky people and animals, but it occurs quite often and is actually a main cause for a lot of birth defects. The parents just have the genes and it happens. So has happened with NORMAL sized horses. A 16hh horse and a 16hh horse give birth to a 14hh horse–”drawfism” to large horses. Small ponys give birth to a dwarf pony, and it’s going to be a little to much smaller, just like larger horses. It does not mean that the people meant to breed them this way, it just happens. They couldn’t have known that the two parents had a dwarf gene, and the two combined caused a mini-mini pony! Are you so messed up to say and actually MEAN “I love my horses because they are horses”? Do you only love your children if they are normal? Do you only treat people right if they are not mentally ill, or have other birth defects and/or birth problems? Do you not love overly large horses? Or small dogs? Heck, dogs were bred super small (first to be rodent hunters) then even smaller so rich women could carry them around and have them on their laps. Perhaps this will become a new era where we will have horses inside with us, and they will be potty trained? This pony is not a disgrace to horses. You are a disgrace to humans. I’m disgusted by you, and NOT because of your physical appearence, but because of who you are on the INSIDE. You should be ashamed.

While I agree she is very cute, I find it very sad and disappointing that she has to wear orthopedic leg fittings most of the time to enable her legs to support her body. That is irresponsible selective breeding — clearly the breeders choose poorly or did not consider breeding for qualities that genotypically and phenotypically improve the health breed. Just plain sad and irresponsible.
