With the invention of the digital camera, one can be assured that the captured photos can withstand for a very long time as long as the hard drive or memory did not spoilt. Here, I will show you some ways to protect your photograph. Some of the methods are applicable for both ordinary camera and digital camera.
- Do not use expired film
Check the expiry date on the package(or the film canister itself) to make sure that you only use fresh film. Store unexposed film in the regfrigerator or any other cool fresh(not damp).

- Do not exposed Film to Sunlight
Basically, the main reason why the film is stored in a dark place/container is because the camera shutter opening for milliseconds is the only exposure your film receives. Urolling the film before you put it in the camera is useless.
- Look after your camera
If you hold down the flash on your digital camera and the window is telling you that without the flash the picture wil be blurry, you are really going to face the consequencces of your actions.
- Do not store photograph and negatives in damp or hot places
The best way to avoid this completely is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Becareful when it’s raining.
- Backup your digital images
Transfer your digital photos from your camera to your computer or another source, and then backup those images onto a CD or DVD. Refer to this post on how to protect your digital media.(cd and dvd)
- Mail photographs with supportive boards
Always mail our pictures with a protective backing and fronting, which depending on the size of the photograph. Put the picture in between, slide into the envelope, and see if the envelop is easily creased. A hard card board should work best. It’s always good to write “do not bend” on your envelopes.
- Becareful when marking your photograph
Be very careful and choosy when marking your photograph. Don’t use any markers that will seep through the paper back into the photograph, don’t choose pens that will smear, and don’t press hard when you’re writing.
