It has been verified. Remember the e-mail from unknown that I’ve posted
in this blog last month? I received several similar e-mails after the incident and it seems that those kind of e-mail continue to flood my Gmail inbox day by day. People who are experienced in surfing the internet will know that it’s fake, but not the others who might be new to the internet.
The good news is, we already got another confirmation about famous mysterious mails come from the “Microsoft Award Team”, or whatever suspicious mail from the so called Microsoft which you might receive in your e-mail inbox, especially when you use Gmail account.
Microsoft Malaysia stated that it was a scam since Microsoft never engage in rewarding money through chain mails. This means any user who received such e-mails should not react to it or just send them to the trash folder, mark as spams, and put their mind at ease. Thanks to Amir for asking the question to them.
Dear Amir,
Thank you for contacting Microsoft Customer Service. Based on your e-mail communication, I understand that you would like to clarify if the e-mail you received indeed came from Microsoft.
We appreciate your effort for bringing this issue to our attention. However, we would like to clarify that this information is definitely not from Microsoft. The company (We) does not engage in rewarding money through chain mails.
Thank you for your continuous support of Microsoft’s products and services. Should you require further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us again.

This is just another variation of the old “Nigerian Scam”. Before you get the award (which you will never receive) you have to pay money out or else give them details of your bank account so that they can clear it out, or use the information to open credit card accounts in your name.
Microsoft have confirmed that the awards don’t exist: these scammers are asking people to pay money “for processing fees”. They have made up names of government departments that don’t exist. They don’t even write in good English.
July 10th, 2007 at 7:22 pm
never reply to these emails, never open them..if you do open them forward the scam mails to:fraud.alert@met.police.uk….ok..but never ring them on the phone number that they supply on the email they trace it back to you…

the reason why some people receive these scams is when you subscribe/join a web page..these scammers buy software that tracks email addresses off these sites…but u shouldn’t let that stop you joining web pages, just when you first receive an email mark it as unsafe and ignore it

September 18th, 2007 at 9:57 am
It is quite absurd why people are resorting to cheating by these means, because they know that there are so many who want to become rich instantaneouly. People have to change their mindset, there are NO free lunches.
September 19th, 2007 at 1:44 pm
Yahoo/microsoft mega promotion is truly a phishing scam. How can these people be so stupid to think that we would actually respond to this?
September 19th, 2007 at 9:04 pm

September 20th, 2007 at 5:28 am
the money check will get to your door, then when you go to the bank and TRY to cash it..you will be charged with fraud..but you have to wonder that if you think about it the kind of people who fall for these scams aren’t honest themselves..as they know its illegal

Hey guys,
The next time you get one of these phony lottery emails, respond to it and tell them you sent the information in an attachment. Believe me they are waiting to hear from you! Simply attach one of those old Halloween jokes that scream and scare the crap out of people. Or better yet attach a letter that exposes them for what they are….crap. Let’s waste a little of their time too! I did it without sending an attachment(even though I said I did) and they have written back 4 times! I keep telling them that it’s there and I will resend it! NOT!

Last year I lost my life’s savings and home due to ignorance. These rapscallions sent me a forged check that I deposited to my back account. I sent them thousands of dollars to pay my supposed custom taxes, etc. What the hell, I had just become a millionaire.(Not at all–Oh I wish). After the fact I reported the incident to the CIA,FBI, Local Authorities, Homeland Securities.Needless to say, I was unable to recoup my losses. Now I am urging everyone to shout it out/FRAUD/SCAM. You won’t snare me.
November 29th, 2007 at 11:23 am
I read the blog posted. I received a similar email and I replied giving my name, address and contact numbers. The reply was suspicious. I got two attachments in PDF format are one from Microsoft and another certificate from FDIC.
Following are the suspicious activity clicked to me.
1. Email address is Yahoo and Microsoft has there own server.
2. Email has full of spelling and formatting errors.
3. The Bank name is HSBC of London and I found in the UK web the bank name is incorrect and HSBC responded that it is Phishing. (Phishing@hsbc.com)
4. The certificate background was so horrible but printing was ok. It was clear the certificate was made using ‘Word Art’ and million dollars or pound distributor can not have a good clerical setup. The Microsoft is the one who make similar soft wares.
5. I checked the UK address through map and satellite view and found the building is there but phone is not responding. Someone in UK has to open a free web to check reverse phone number in UK.
6. Read this suspicious word”Do not tell people about your Prize Award until your money is successfully handed over to you avoid disqualification that may arise from double claim.”
7. Microsoft and aol (see the lower case usage) have a joint venture? I thought both are competitors of same field.
8. I did not check with Microsoft, Frontiers Delivery services or FDIC. I just typed the word in my email and I got this blog page

Hello everyone,
For those of you who are wondering if these emails are fake or not just take my case into consideration. I get every day emails saying that im rich, from microsoft and AOL lotteries, news about some rich guy in south africa or nigeria that died and have my same last name to world cup lotteries. They all Scam!!!Just think that you didint enter any contest and you dont have a distant relative who is rich in nigeria or just take a look at the email adressses from the people you are supposed to send emails to. these are free accounts anyone can set up. So dont fall into their trap , dont even send them your personal information because they might use it to trick anyone else.
