Traffic shaping is an attempt to control computer network traffic in order to optimize or guarantee performance, low latency, and/or bandwidth. In this case, many ISPs around the world use it to limit peer to peer networking. To prevent it from influencing your Utorrent’s download speed can be done in 2 simple steps !
- Go to: Options > Preferences > Bittorrent
- Next, Go to: ‘Protocol encryption’ You can choose between ‘forced’ and ‘enable’. Enable will give you more connections but offers less protection against traffic shapers.
That’s all. Finish! Make sure that you use the latest version of Utorrent.

A lot of ISPs can now detect encrypted bittorrent traffic and so using encryption won’t give you faster speeds. Rogers Canada even goes so far as to throttle ALL encrypted traffic (they are so evil).
