Remember the old days when we anxiously open up our new
computer and have Windows XP operating system installed? It is a great feeling since during that time we get to enjoy the latest technology and interface of Windows operating system after feeling bored with the dull and classic look of Windows 1998, Me and its predecessors.
However, the recent news is Windows XP is going to be retired in 2008 to make a way for Microsoft latest operating system, Windows Vista. This would mean if you buy a new computer in 2008, you will not see Windows XP but you will get Windows Vista installed instead.
According to BBC, Microsoft is keeping to a plan to stop selling the operating system due to low consumers resoponse to Windows Vista. A poll released in early April by Harris Interactive stated that only minority considers upgrading to Windows Vista in United States. So, starting from 2008, vendors such as Dell and Toshiba will no longer able to purchase license for the software.
Perhaps, it’s a good move by Microsoft to control the market with the new os and create the buzz, although I think most user would stay with Windows XP due to Vista’s high hardware requirements. There’s no significant change with Windows Vista in term of functionality, but the amazing aero interface will surely upgrade our computing experience.
Perhaps this update will force Microsoft to lower the price of Vista’s licenses to attract more users in the future, in which at that time, we don’t have no more reason not to buy Windows Vista when upgrading/buying new pc. Sayonara Windows XP..

entah.. aku rasa Window XP ni akan reliable sekurang2nya untuk 3 tahun lagi..2010 mungkin…2008 terlalu cepat..kalau Microsoft tegar membuat begini, pembangunan IT akan terencat sedikit gara-gara mahu menggunakan Vista.. hardware lagi… hu hu..

yes.. i agree with the statement. We have to upgrade our hardware in order to install Vista. Otherwise, it’s likely not compatible and might hurt our pc.

ya aku bersetuju dengan encik mohdismail.
jika mereka buat begitu mungkin golongan kurang IT akan kekok sedikit dibandingkan mereka yang sering ‘explore’
contoh org kekok IT – hari hari pakai WORD/Powerpoint je

mohdismail: ye betul tu. bukan semua orang mampu upgrade ke hardwae baru, lebih-lebih lagi student yang tk buat part time job.
fahmishah: a’a…dengan windows xp pun non-it boleh meengupgradekan “software” dalaman diaorang dengan ilmu-ilmu komputer yang sangat luas ni. tidak perlu guna vista pun untuk kelihatan professional.
cake: now I know..thanks!
dannea: that’s right. even though the manufacture stated that the pc/laptop is windows-vista ready, I’m still doubt about the performance in long term.
hardy: thanks for the track back.
p.s. thanks for the comment guys!
