Inrnet users who live in a country outside the United States would usually get limited country slot error when trying to download files from Megaupload. Megaupload requires the visitors to install the Alexa toolbar to proceed downloading and it will be quite troublesome if we’re using public computer or prefer not to install information gathering software like the Alexa Toolbar. There are several ways to solve this either by using US based proxy or by applying some tweaks to your computer/internet browser which is the most effective method this time. Those tweaks are:
Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.5 tweak:
- Go to address bar and type about:config . Press enter
- Look for general.useragent.extra.firefox using the filter and double click on it
- Change the default text with this: Firefox/2.0.0.5 MEGAUPLOAD 1.0
Windows Registry tweak (for Internet Explorer 7 and Internet Eplorer 6):
- Open run in the start menu and type regedit. Press enter.
- in Registry Editor window, go to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Setting\5.0\User Agent\Post Platform]
- Right click on ‘Post Platform’ and add new string value. Enter “Alexa Toolbar”. Save the registry and restart your computer.
note: For IE 7.0 the “Post Platform” will be located at:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mcft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\User Agent\Post Platform]
p.s: Tested and working. You can also try these alternatives if they didn’t work by the time you read this post. Basically, they perform the same functions which are trying to fool Megaupload.com by stating that Alexa Toolbar was installed in your computer although it isn’t and make the server see you’re from countries where there’s not download limitation. Enjoy!

it seems that the firefox tweak stopped working a few days ago…
maybe megaupload changed something?
August 19th, 2007 at 2:04 am
Yup, just a few days ago. I can’t download anymore.
August 19th, 2007 at 4:11 am
I also can’t download anymore.
Is it really risky to download the toolbar? And will the toolbar send information on only the browser i’m using or ALL activities I do on the computer/internet?

Jessica: It’s an internet browser helper object which sends your internet browsing data to help Alexa track website statistic (the ranking of a website in term of traffic).
But it depends on yourself whether you want to use it actually, as for me, I tried to avoid using it since my anti-Spyware programs recognized it as intruder before. Furthermore, I don’t like to install too many software in my computer as they would usually lag my computer up.

The firefox tweak stopped because firefox update to 2.06. Just redo the tweak but change the Firefox/2.0.0.5 MEGAUPLOAD 1.0 to Firefox/2.0.0.6 MEGAUPLOAD 1.0

For Firefox v2.0.0.6 user, try download Megaupload SX 4.3 = http://pbreak.freehostia.com/site/megaupload/
After installing Megaupload SX plugin, restart your Firefox and you’ll notice that a new menu “Megaupload SX 4.3″ will appear in your Tools menu. Turn it on(enable) when you want to click a megaupload link and turn it off(disable) after the download has started.
