Windows Vista is Microsoft’s next operating system after its highly successful predecessor, Windows XP. I bought an OEM copy of Windows Vista Home Premium a few months ago alongside some computer hardware that were meant for a pc upgrade. As expected, the installation was a breeze, but there is a security feature in Windows Vista that made me felt uneasy, which is the User Account Control that pops-up every time you want to install or run an application.
So, how to disable the User Account Control in Windows Vista?
Here are the solutions that I’ve tested to be successfully working:
Method 1 : Using msconfig utility
1.Go to run/start search menu. Type in “msconfig” (without quotes) and press enter run the utility.
2.Click on Tools tab. Click on Disable UAC and then “Launch”. A command prompt window will open stating that the operation has completed successfully.
3.Restart your computer.
Method 2 : Using Control Panel
1.From start menu, go to Control Panel
2.Click on Add/Remove User Account
3.Click on “go to the main User Account page” link.
4.Click on Turn User Account Control on or off. Unchecked the check box that will appear next.
5.Reboot your computer.

I am surprised that that was all the problems you had with Vista. My number one problem was my inability to play Freecell as fast as I could with XP. Many downloads also report incompatibility with Vista. I have gone back to my trusted XP and am comfortable with it.

That was not the only problem I had with Vista. I dislike the way it launched Windows Task Manager too which simply stole two seconds of my precious time.

I understand from reliable sources that MS is planning to stop XP and insist on people “upgrading” to Vista. I shall switch to Apple I think.

I don’t ahve Vista, but that User Account Control reminds me of XP’s requirement of digital signing for every new software you want to install. Pressing Continue usually solved the problem.

I am unaware of which group of software needs to be selected while installing to get msconfig installed… I mostly have to copy the executable from old installations!

I’m not a fan of Vista. That popup window is annoying. I’m not looking forward to upgrading to it, but hopefully Microsoft will fix the issues in the next year or so.

I’m switching over to Linux (in the process right now). Widows is going the way of the Dodo, in my opinion.
