A reader has asked for solution on how to make an existing mp3 file louder. From my experience, I did realized inconsistancy in volume of mp3 files in my mp3 collection and it was troublesome to change the volume slider for each song with different loudness.

What I did to rectify this problem was simple. I altered the loudness of the mp3 file, since originally, the mp3 file’s amplitude was predetermined by the recording company. The software that I used, MP3Gain analyzed mp3 files to determine how loud they sound to human ear and then adjusted the mp3 files so that they have the same loudness without any quality loss.

  1. Download MP3Gain (freeware) from sourceforge and install the software.
  2. If you receive this error; “component ‘MSCOMCTL.OCX’ or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid” ; download this additional file and install it.
  3. Run mp3 gain
  4. Drag the file to mp3 gain window, click on track analysis, and adjust the volume of the mp3 file according to your preference.
  5. Click Track Gain and play the modified file using your mp3 player.

Here’s the sample of mp3 file that I’ve edited. Hope this solution works for the reader who asked the question.
